baboons...also known as balloons

they clung to the tree
like a spit ball under a desk
the cat wasn't deterred

book cover

This is the tentative book cover for a very interesting book on the law and lab: a view from two benches. It is a page turner! The bobanator wrote it and asked me to do a cover eons ago. There have already been edits we shall see if this is the final. This is the perfect example of trying to make the best of a boring situation.

This is the recent journal front and back covers. I am going to be putting this up on etsy tomorrow. I am really excited about it and I want to make prints of the front cover.

a bird? a plane? no, a whale with a sail!

Another book on etsy! This one has graph paper on the inside. I took a screen print I did recently and stained it with india ink and watercolor. I am happy with it and hope to do more thing with screen printing once I come up with a good enough idea. I love the art form, but it is so step/labor intensive that I really have to commit to the design.....commitment is scary.

My god, that dress eating that woman!

I was looking at bridal dresses to give some opinions to a friend who is going to be getting married soon. Most of the dresses were hilarious and I couldn't help myself. So here is a series of illustrations and I have to say most of them are pretty accurate representations of what I saw.

I need a new scanner

these are light...and a lot better in person.

These are book covers of books I am going to be selling on Etsy tomorrow. The light is not good right now and we want to take good pix so I have to be patient....poop.

Back cover and front cover of little sketchbook

Front cover of a hard bound cloth sketchbook.

A recipe book! this is the front cover and there are cupcakes on the back as well. It has 7 tabs for various recipes: soups/salads, appetizers, entrees, desserts, bread, and UFO. It even has a ribbon bookmark to save your place. Very excited. These books will be between 25-30 dollars. The recipe book will be 30 b/c of the amount of extra time it took. It is 96 pages. The sketch books are 45 pages.

If they sell then I will try to actually make more to sell...if not I will have a nice stock of presents for people I love.

Design question

What's better? Is there a difference? I know the sizes are different, but is the Bamboo or Graphire not as good or something.

Revamp

This is the recolored barista mag illustration. I had a digital color tutorial by one of my generous profs. She gave me a 2 hour lesson on digital color and it made coloring so different. So here is the new coloring that I will send off to Paste mag as an example of my digital work. I will also send off a watercolor example so they can see the full range of my potential.

Will work for money

I am still in the midst of production which includes ironing a book cover printed on inkpress canvas paper...not a frustrating task at all. A note to anyone who decides this is a good idea: tape the paper to a heavier backed paper and run it through the regular feed. It took two hours and an email to someone smarter than me to figure this out. Not to mention that this pain in the ass paper is 10 13 x 19 sheets for 45 dollars. The amount I spend and then throw away is appalling. I do my best to steal what I can and paint 90% of my work on matte board scraps from the photographers. It is the best for watercolors and looks so nice.
Moving along. Over break I have a list of things I want to accomplish aside from sleeping.
This list is tentative of course and is subject to change based on how neglected my (way too patient) professional ATL hater feels.

1) make a recipe book for my growing collection of experiments in the kitchen. With weird fabric, pockets, and illustrations. (it will never live up to my 50s drag queen recipe book, but really what could).
2) send work out to magazines and a couple of contests.
3) paint strange things
4) run a 1/2 marathon (its the day before classes resume)
5)Freelance work (if it all works out)
6) watch a documentary
Im sure there is more, but this is it for now

fabricated perfume bottle before tinting

These are pics of my beautiful fabricated bottle without the tinting. They wanted to make sure it was good to go with the fake spritzer. I loves it. There will be more pictures of the final with color once it arrives on tuesday!

exploding creativity...like the bubonic pague

These are two paintings (out of 12) that are going to be a calendar I am putting together for a class. We had to choose 1 or 2 to make into posters. I chose the ones that had the best color. The content is weird....which makes me happy. I will be posting the others once I have layed out the months...bleh. So much more work to come.

Go figure

So I am in production week a little ahead of schedule, but I still have a week for things to go wrong. In the mean time here are some figures I did this quarter. I had a lot to choose from and seeing as I still have around 20 illustration pieces to scan (12 are going to be 2 scans because they are oversized) I decided to only use 3 of my best figures. I did these in oil pastel and the color is wrong, but I am the only one who knows that and this looks nice anyway. Each of these took 6 scans because they are so big.
On another note I updated my fickr page with my publication which has changed since then, but it is still pretty close.
